Join Us
We are always looking for motivated researchers to join the lab. If you are passionate about power electronics, integrated circuits, wide-bandgap devices, and AI-assisted power applications, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Prospective PhD Students
We welcome outstanding and highly motivated students with a Bachelor's or Master's degree to apply for PhD study in our group. Students with backgrounds in analog/mixed-signal IC design, power electronics, wide-bandgap semiconductor devices, circuit modeling, or related areas are especially encouraged to apply.
We value candidates with strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity for research, and the motivation to explore challenging problems in next-generation power electronics and integrated systems.
Preferred Skills:
Applicants are NOT expected to have experience in all areas. Expertise in ONE or TWO relevant domains, together with strong motivation to learn, is highly valued.
Digital Verification: Verilog, SystemVerilog, multi-process simulation.
Device Fabrication: Photolithography, CVD, electron beam deposition, thermal deposition, annealing, III-V etching, sputtering.
Packaging: ESD design, dicing, flip-chip pad design, wirebonding parasitics modeling.
Programming and Scripting Languages: C, C++, Python, Java, LaTeX, MATLAB, Ocean, shell (bash, zsh, csh), SPICE/Spectre.
Scholarships & Funding:
Competitive funding opportunities are available for qualified applicants, including HKUST Postgraduate Studentship (PGS), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), and other university merit-based awards. Please refer to the official HKUST scholarships and fees page for the latest information.
How to Apply: Interested applicants are welcome to send their CV and a brief research proposal to eewjzhang@ust.hk. Detailed admission requirements and official application procedures can be found on the HKUST postgraduate admissions website.
Research Assistants & Postdoctoral Researchers
We are also continuously recruiting Research Assistants (RA) and occasionally Postdoctoral Researchers. Candidates with strong research experience and a good fit to our research directions are encouraged to apply.
Please send your CV, research statement, and representative publications to eewjzhang@ust.hk.
Undergraduate & Visiting Researchers
We welcome visiting scholars, visiting students, and undergraduate researchers who are interested in gaining research experience in advanced power electronics and IC design. Please contact us with your CV and a short description of your background and interests.
